plants heal

yesterday's medicine

Throughout history, humans have used plants as their predominant source of medicine. Plants and people share a vast history dating back tens of thousands of years.

Archeological excavations dated back 60,000 years have found remains of plants used for healing, such as opium poppies and cannabis. Eventually, humans began to document their knowledge of the medicinal uses of plants with one of the oldest written records on medicinal plants (Egyptian Ebers Papyrus) dating back to 1500 B.C.

The use of plants as medicines has a long history in the treatment of various diseases. In the early 1800s, scientists would begin isolating single compounds from plants that they believed were responsible for their healing properties.

Eventually, scientists would learn to synthetically create compounds from plants and concentrate them.  This would help create the model for pharmacology that still remains in medicine today. In fact, nearly half of all pharmaceuticals in use today were originally derived from plant sources.

WHAT WE’RE ABOUT

At Fringe, we believe plants are central to our health and societies for food and medicine. One of the most versatile plants in terms of its active medicinal compounds is Cannabis sativa (of which a sub-species is the hemp plant). The cannabis plant has been used in traditional medicine practices for thousands of years and is documented in the oldest pharmacopeias of time.

Approaching the 20th century cannabis was the most common ingredient in many over-the-counter medications with a wide array of uses for both food and industry. Using cannabis as a medicine was a way of life for us. Plants have been an invaluable resource to us for healing for centuries, and today, the scientific evidence supporting their importance in modern medicine is stronger than ever.

"For every human illness, somewhere in the world there exists a plant which is the cure. I believe that there is a healing potential locked inside plants which is integral with their evolution, just as it is part of human evolution to learn to tap this wonderful gift of Nature."

-- Rudolf Steiner --

today's science

Humans have been cultivating plants for medicine since the beginning of time, making today’s science about the chemical compatibility of plant compounds with the physiology of animals that much more fascinating.

Specifically, the cannabis plant had been a vital medicine for us for thousands of years – but we’re just now understanding the science of how it works with our bodies. While cannabis remains illegal at the federal level, hemp was brought back into the “mainstream” with the passing of the 2018 farm bill, legalizing its use and expanding our understanding of its potential in medicine. The impact of the hemp plant on our health has been misunderstood and misrepresented, until now.

CBD, or cannabidiol, is one of two major cannabinoids found in cannabis. Specifically, CBD is a “phytocannabinoid”, meaning it is derived from plants, in contrast to endogenous cannabinoids, which are made in the body. Both phyto- and endogenous cannabinoids share similar molecular targets in the body, although our understanding of this complexity is far from complete.

The recent legalization of hemp and the concurrent active body of research has furthered our understanding of a unique and widespread biological system in our bodies that interact with the compounds found in the hemp plant – our endocannabinoid system (ECS). The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is known as the “Ur-regulator“ or “master modulator” in the body4. This designation is especially interesting considering ECS was not discovered until the 1990’s. Most health care providers don’t know much about the ECS, and it is not commonly included in undergraduate or professional training curriculums. This is unfortunate, as the ECS plays a critical role in health and disease.

WHAT WE know

The ECS is very complex and we have only scratched the surface in our understanding of how it works. However, we do know that CBD interacts with the ECS. CBD acts to affect levels of endogenous cannabinoids; that is, cannabinoids that are made in the body. Endogenous cannabinoids include anandamide (AEA) and 2-arachidonylglycerol (2-AG), which are involved in the main ECS functions: “eat, sleep, relax, protect, and forget”.

heal yourself

So what does all of that mean for you?

At Fringe, we maintain that the real medical breakthrough has always been the amazing relationship our bodies have with plants that heal and the ability of our body to heal itself with the help of nature.

pain

Pain is a multi-dimensional experience in our body. CBD is a powerful, safe and natural anti-inflammatory with the potential to reduce pain on a chemical level in our body. CBD can also play an important role in improving the emotional experience of pain. That’s just scratching the surface. CBD has over 65 molecular targets in our body and is an incredible tool to have on hand when pain comes knocking.

For a recent injury or a flare up of an existing injury use Fringe CBD water soluble powders as needed, much like you would use an over the counter anti-inflammatory for pain. Take 1-2 packets/day to help with pain/inflammation and to speed up recovery.

For persistent pain or chronic pain take 1 packet every day to help with inflammation, pain, sleep and mood. You will make much more of an impact on your health if you focus on helping your entire system. Daily use of Fringe water soluble powders will help with reducing systemic inflammation and also improving the aspects of persistent pain associated with our nervous system/brain function.

To help localized aches and pains Fringe Mysa topical CBD lotion is great to use on your skin. Use as often as you like!

sleep

A good night’s sleep may be the single most important thing you can do for your health. Lack of sleep can cause our ECS to be dysregulated. Supplementing with CBD can help regulate our ECS bringing our circadian rhythm (sleep wake cycles) into better balance, helping us grab some better zzz’s.

To help your bedtime routine, take Fringe CBD at night, as needed. Take 1 packet 30 minutes before bed to help with sleep.

During the day taking Fringe CBD in may provide the support your system needs for a good night’s sleep. Daily use of Fringe water soluble powders will help with reducing systemic inflammation and regulating your mood/nervous system. Both systemic inflammation and chronic stress can disrupt our quality of sleep. Take 1 packet each day to help overall systemic inflammation and mood/stress.

Stress and Mood

CBD has multiple targets throughout the body that affect several biological systems involved with our mood and mental health. These systems, like the serotonin system, GABA, and opioid system can all have a positive effect on how we feel when they are balanced.

When you feel things are ‘off’ with your thoughts, worries, stress levels or motivation, this is a great time to take a packet of Fringe CBD water soluble powder.

Listening to our body and knowing when things are ‘not right’ is such a powerful skill for us to learn. Internal awareness is always a step ahead of internal regulation. Take 1 packet.

For persistent stress, worry, and mood imbalances – you will make much more of an impact on your healing with daily use of Fringe water soluble CBD. take 1 packet each day.

CBD from the Hemp Plant

Paramount to the scientific understanding of the hemp plant and our body’s ability to regulate our internal well-being is one of the main compounds found in the plant – cannabidiol, or CBD. CBD from the hemp plant is incredibly safe to use and has multiple health benefits. Fringe CBD is tasteless, fast acting, and an excellent addition to your daily wellness routine.

Fringe CBD products are produced from organically farmed, United States grown, non-GMO Hemp. At Fringe a 3rd-party tests our CBD products at three separate stages for heavy metals, THC, molds, mycotoxins, pesticides, and any impurities during production. Each product and batch is tested to ensure that there is 0% THC content (less than .01% THC) in the product. Each package has a QR code proudly listed on the label linking you to our “certificate of analysis” or testing results.

Due to the lack of regulation in the hemp plant industry by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), buyers must beware of the quality of CBD they are purchasing.

There are CBD products for sale that only include hemp seed oil (no CBD!) or are grown in industrial hemp fields that are not tested for heavy metals leached from the soil into the product.

Fringe’s medical team has partnered with a group of food scientists to transform hemp oil into a tasteless, water-soluble powder. By creating this dissolvable drink mix, we made the CBD four times more bioavailable (that is, better absorbed) by your body. With this transformation, you now have a highly effective, fast-acting packet of CBD that you can put into any beverage and experience relief. Learn more about the benefits of CBD, your endocannabinoid system, and how CBD works.

Organically farmed, USA-grown Hemp is used to make Fringe Mana, Fringe Henko, Fringe Mysa, and Fringe Mysa Cool products.
