Fringe Raspberry Electrolyte & Mineral Mix: Sugar-Free and Clean Hydration

Last spring, Fringe introduced its unflavored Electrolyte and Mineral Mix. Since then, customers have embraced this product, and many have asked us to add a flavored option and expand our line. Well, it took a while – but it is finally here: Fringe Raspberry Flavored Electrolyte & Mineral Mix!

We’re extremely proud of this product, which we know will be an absolute game changer in the electrolyte market. Unlike most of our competitors, our product is flavored with real food in the form of powdered freeze-dried organic raspberry. And it contains no sugar, artificial flavors or colors, citric acid, maltodextrin, or stevia. Just clean ingredients and transparent labelling – which is what you can expect from Fringe.

We’ll get into our ingredients in more detail shortly, but first, let’s do a quick refresher on electrolyte supplements and how they can be used to support optimal health and wellness.

Why Electrolyte Supplements Matter for Health & Hydration

What Are Electrolytes?

Electrolytes are minerals that are dissolved in fluid to form electrically charged ions. These ions are essential to conducting electricity in the body and powering key physiological functions. The main electrolytes include:

  • Sodium (Na⁺): Regulates fluid balance, nerve signals, and muscle contractions
  • Potassium (K⁺): Helps control heart rhythm and water inside cells
  • Magnesium (Mg²⁺): Supports energy, nerve function, and over 800 enzyme reactions
  • Calcium (Ca²⁺): Builds bones and aids in muscle movement and blood clotting
  • Chloride (Cl⁻): Balances fluid and contributes to stomach acid production

The role of electrolytes in regulating human physiology is profound. These charged minerals are essential for life and are found throughout the body, including in our cells, blood, and the fluids between them. Although electrolytes occur naturally in both food and water, modern agricultural and water processing practices have significantly depleted their levels. As a result, electrolyte supplementation has become an increasingly important way to support optimal health.

How to Use Electrolyte Supplements for Optimal Wellness

Electrolytes naturally come from two primary sources in our diets: whole foods and water. In the past, both provided a meaningful contribution to our daily mineral intake. Foods grown in mineral-rich soil supplied electrolytes like potassium, magnesium, and calcium, while drinking water – especially from natural, unfiltered sources – offered additional minerals in their dissolved, bioavailable form.

But modern industrial practices have disrupted both sources. Decades of intensive agriculture have led to soil mineral depletion, reducing the nutrient density of even the healthiest foods. At the same time, water treatment and purification systems, while necessary for removing harmful contaminants, have stripped our water of essential minerals, transforming it into little more than purified H₂O.

This matters because water was once a significant source of electrolytes. As it flowed through geological formations, it picked up dissolved minerals like magnesium, calcium, and potassium, contributing up to 20% of our daily intake for some essential nutrients. This naturally mineral-rich “living water” supported hydration in a way that plain, filtered water simply cannot.

Today, most of us are drinking demineralized water, whether it’s from municipal sources, bottled water, or home filtration systems like reverse osmosis. While these processes are effective at removing pollutants, they also remove beneficial electrolytes, leaving water nutritionally empty.

The long-term effects of drinking highly filtered water are increasingly recognized:

  • Mineral Loss: Demineralized water may increase urinary excretion of essential minerals.
  • Water Loss: It can reduce water retention at the cellular level, impairing hydration.
  • Health Risks: Inadequate magnesium and calcium intake—especially from water—has been linked to increased risk of cardiovascular disease, stroke, and some cancers.

That’s why electrolyte supplementation is no longer just for athletes or those recovering from illness – it’s becoming a daily wellness tool for anyone drinking purified or reverse osmosis water. Adding minerals back into your water helps restore hydration to the way nature intended.

The Unique Benefits of Fringe’s Raspberry Electrolyte Mix

Our Raspberry Electrolyte & Mineral Mix stands out in a competitive market. This is largely because of our ingredients, both what we use, and what we choose not to use. Most electrolyte products contain ingredients like sugar, synthetic chemicals, natural flavors, citric acid, and stevia – all of which we deliberately exclude. Here are some important ways we do things differently:

Ingredients You Can Trust: No Sugar, No Artificial Flavors

Electrolyte drinks and powders almost always use one of two sweeteners: sugar or stevia. Sugar is usually in the form of high fructose corn syrup or sucrose. Overall, it’s not a good option for most people. Sugar is harmful to our metabolic health and is best consumed as part of natural whole foods, like fruit. High fructose corn syrup should always be avoided, as it is harmful to the liver.

Instead of sugar, higher quality electrolyte supplements often use stevia, which is a plant-based zero calorie sweetener popular in healthy “natural” foods. However, there is some recent research that has linked stevia to negative (albeit minor) effects on the gut microbiota. So, we’ve chosen to sweeten our electrolytes using thaumatin, which is a protein-based sweetener derived from the African katempfe fruit. Research has demonstrated that thaumatin is incredibly safe, and there evidence which suggests that thaumatin or its digestion products might have potential anti-inflammatory properties in the stomach.

All flavored electrolyte products will be formulated with either artificial or “natural flavors”. Artificial flavors are typical of lower quality products and are made with synthetically produced chemicals made to replicate the taste of natural ingredients. For example, an artificial strawberry flavor is a chemical made in a lab that tastes more or less like a real strawberry.

In contrast, “natural flavors” start from a plant or animal source, which is why they are designated as “natural”. But at this point, things get murky – because the end product (which is still labelled as a “natural flavor”) may contain synthetic or chemically altered ingredients used as carriers, solvents or stabilizers. This makes “natural flavors” a misleading term that hides additives like propylene glycol or ingredients like gums and maltodextrins that health-conscious people may want to avoid.

Real Raspberries, Not "Natural Flavors"

At Fringe, we don’t use artificial or so-called “natural flavors” – we use real food. Our Raspberry Electrolyte & Mineral Mix is flavored with organic freeze-dried raspberries, and that’s it. Formulating this way wasn’t easy; in fact, it took us quite a while to get it right because it’s still almost unheard of in this industry. But we made it happen, and we’re proud of that. You’ll even see tiny flecks of raspberry floating in your glass – a small but satisfying reminder that what you’re drinking is the real thing.

Most flavored electrolyte products rely on citric acid to create tartness and balance sweetness. But citric acid is almost always produced through large-scale fermentation of GMO corn sugars using Aspergillus niger, a mold that has raised concerns about residual byproducts and potential allergenicity in sensitive individuals. At Fringe, we’ve taken a different path. We have a strict “no citric acid” policy and instead use L-malic acid, which can be derived through natural fermentation from non-GMO sugars, without the use of allergenic molds. It’s a cleaner, safer alternative that aligns with our commitment to ingredient integrity.

At Fringe, we take a different approach than most companies to the most important part of any electrolyte product: the electrolytes themselves. Instead of using lab made isolates or overly processed salts, we source our minerals from nature, like calcium from algae, and sodium and chloride from Australian sea water. We also include trace minerals from the Great Salt Lake, which provides a broader mineral profile than almost any other electrolyte on the market.

Our electrolytes are also intentionally formulated. Our formulation isn’t based on trends or marketing hype – it’s based on nature. We looked to two models: the mineral composition of naturally sourced water and the electrolyte ratios found within the human body. Just as spring water picks up minerals like sodium, magnesium, and potassium as it flows through rock and soil, our mix is designed to reflect those natural concentrations, providing effective support without overwhelming the system. We also mirrored the sodium-to-potassium ratio in the human body, and have kept our sodium levels moderate, so that they’re safe for (almost) everyone. By aligning our formulation with both the earth’s design and the body’s biology, we’ve created a product that works in harmony with how we’re built to hydrate.

Five Pillars of Fringe Supplement Design

Our Raspberry Electrolyte & Mineral Mix reflects everything we stand for at Fringe. Like all our products, it was formulated with intention, guided by the same principles that apply to all the supplements we make.

These are the five pillars that define the Fringe approach:

  1. Simple Formulations: At Fringe, our “Small Scoops Mission” reflects our commitment to simplicity, purity, and effectiveness in supplementation. We believe that less is more, which is why our products feature minimalistic formulations. Our small scoops are packed with only the essential nutrients your body needs, without unnecessary fillers or additives.
  2. Clean, Natural Ingredients: Whenever possible, we choose ingredients that are naturally sourced, non-GMO, and organic—carefully selected from the highest quality suppliers we can find. We go to great lengths to ensure every ingredient meets our uncompromising standards.
  3. Effective, Therapeutic Doses: We believe that supplements should provide doses that are effective enough to offer real benefits, without being so high that they pose a risk of adverse effects. Our electrolytes were formulated to reflect both the mineral content of naturally sourced water, and the mineral ratios of electrolytes in the human body.
  4. Transparent Labelling: We’re committed to full transparency, clearly listing every ingredient in our products, even when regulations allow for hidden additives under vague terms like ‘natural flavors.’ This empowers consumers to make informed choices for their health and avoid ingredients that may be reactive or less supportive of well-being
  5. Third Party Testing: We verify the safety of our products by doing extensive safety testing on each batch, including molds, mycotoxins, pesticides, and heavy metals. Testing is done by an unbiased third-party lab and the Certificate of Analysis is readily available to consumers by scanning our product bar code.

At Fringe, these five pillars aren’t just features, they’re our foundation. From formulation to final scoop, every decision is driven by our commitment to integrity, transparency, and optimal health. We create clean, effective, and thoughtfully designed supplements that you can trust to support your health every day.

conclusion

Fringe Raspberry Electrolyte & Mineral Mix isn’t just a new flavor – it’s a whole new approach to hydration. Flavored with real freeze-dried organic raspberries and sweetened with thaumatin instead of sugar or stevia, it’s unlike anything else on the market. We’ve left out the ingredients that almost everyone else uses, including citric acid, synthetic additives, “natural flavors”.
