Why Light Therapy?
Red Light Therapy is used by medical professionals and studied by scientists for its ability to improve how the cells in our body produce energy. The long list of potential benefits continue to amaze people - including pain relief, increased blood flow, reduced inflammation and relaxation of muscles - just to name a few. Blue Light Therapy has antimicrobial effects and may help a variety of skin irritations.
Top Uses of Red, Near Infrared, and Blue Light for Family Health
This blog explores the top ways families use red, near infrared, and blue light therapy, how these wavelengths support the body at a cellular level, and why the Fringe Tiny Wrap is designed for simple, targeted support at home.
More isn’t better
Light Intensity, sometimes referred to as irradiance, is the amount of light energy your skin receives over a given period of time. Higher intensity of light does not mean better results, if the intensity is too great the benefits are actually negated!
While many companies claim to have over 100mW/cm2 of light intensity (too hot!), we have engineered all our red light therapy products to deliver this sun-like light intensity of 20-40mW/cm2 for each session.
At Fringe, we have committed to accurate and honest measurements. We test all of our red light therapy products to verify wavelengths and light intensity and then we publish the data for you to look at.
Yesterday's Medicine
Our ancestors didn’t have to think too much about the amount of light they got every day, they received the perfect blend of light provided by the sun during the day and around the fire at night.
The concept that “sunlight was medicine” and considered necessary for human health eventually became general knowledge; today referred to as Heliotherapy, or sunlight therapy.
Despite its recent popularity, red light therapy has close to a 100 year history of scientific research and medical uses. However, the sun has been popular with humans for healing for a little bit longer - approximately 300,000 years.
And we think the sun knows a thing or two about healing.
Today's Science
Just like plants depend on sunlight to flourish, the human body is dependent on light for its health and wellbeing. Like the nutrients our cells get from food, light can be thought of as a nutrient that is necessary for our cells to function optimally.
Over the last several decades scientists and healthcare providers have published thousands of studies on the power of light therapy and its positive effects on cellular function.
Red and Near Infrared Light therapy stimulates your body’s natural healing process through increased cellular energy (ATP) production. Those energized cells in turn strengthen our body’s own healing capabilities through decreasing inflammation, increasing blood flow to our tissues and increasing collagen production for improved tissue regeneration and repair.
Blue Light has antimicrobial effects and may also help moderate the bacterial activity on our skin that can contribute to skin irritations and inflammations.
The benefit? Sweet, sweet healing.
Red Light Therapy for Family Health
This blog explores how red light therapy can support family health by helping the body’s core biological processes function more efficiently. By supporting cellular energy, circulation, and recovery, light therapy may help promote resilience and well-being for the whole household.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Tiny Wrap safe to use with children?
Is the Tiny Wrap safe to use with children?
Yes, the Tiny Wrap can be used in family settings, including with children, when applied appropriately and under adult supervision. The device uses LED light at non-thermal intensities, meaning it does not heat or damage tissue when used as directed. However, light therapy should never be used unsupervised by children and should not be used on infants.
When using the Tiny Wrap with younger individuals, we recommend shorter session durations, lower frequency, and careful observation of response. Children’s tissues and nervous systems can be more responsive to stimulation, so a “low and slow” approach is best. Direct eye exposure should always be avoided, and the device should not be used while sleeping.
As with any wellness tool, if a child has an underlying medical condition, is taking medications that increase light sensitivity, or has a specific diagnosis affecting the treatment area, consultation with a qualified healthcare professional is recommended before use.
Why use red, near-infrared, or blue light?
Why use red, near-infrared, or blue light?
Different wavelengths interact with the body in distinct ways, which is why the Tiny Wrap includes red, near-infrared, and blue light options.
- Red light is commonly used for surface-level support. It may be chosen for skin irritation, minor rashes, blemishes, growing pains, muscle soreness close to the surface, and areas where improving circulation and inflammatory balance is the goal.
- Near-infrared light penetrates more deeply and is often selected for muscles, joints, abdominal support, or areas where discomfort feels deeper beneath the surface. It’s commonly used for aches, strains, joint stiffness, and digestive or immune-related placement on the abdomen or chest.
- Blue light works at the surface of the skin and is most often used for localized skin concerns. It may be selected for blemish-prone areas, as well as skin conditions like eczema, or when microbial balance is a primary consideration.
The Tiny Wrap’s multi-wavelength design allows you to tailor light selection to the specific area and goal rather than relying on a single type of light.
What makes the Tiny Wrap different from other wraps?
What makes the Tiny Wrap different from other wraps?
The Tiny Wrap is designed for precision placement. Its compact size allows it to be positioned on smaller or more specific areas of the body where larger wraps or panels may not be practical. It also includes red, near-infrared, and blue light in one device, offering wavelength flexibility without needing multiple tools.
