How to use FringeLight Products

All you need is love, and red light therapy!

how to use fringe red light therapy faq

Red Light Therapy is only as good as knowing how to use it! Check out below for instruction on how to get the most out of your units.

All of our products provide light therapy, but there are some differences between them!

The panel – the panel provides red light at 660nm and near-infrared light at 850nm in a 1:1 ratio. It is higher powered (192W) so it can light up a whole area for ambient red light. It can also provide red light therapy directly to the body at 4 to 6 inches away from the body, anywhere on the body- head to toe! The option to turn off the near infrared light is also available on the panel.

The wraps (standard and extra long) – The wireless  wraps provide red light at 660nm and near-infrared light at 850nm. They provide convenient red light therapy to the body with direct skin contact and can be used anywhere on the body- head to toe! They are lower powered than the panel (60W), so they cannot light up a room.

The joint wraps (knee, foot, & ankle, elbow, hand & wrist, neck & shoulder) – The wireless joint wraps provide red light at 660nm and near-infrared light at 850nm. The joint wraps also have an optional vibration feature. They provide the exact same wavelengths as the wraps, just in different shapes specifically designed to be convenient for certain joints- but they can also be used everywhere on the body!

The head wrap – The wireless head wrap provides red light at 650nm, near infrared light at 810nm and deep penetrating near infrared light at 1050nm. These wavelengths are chosen because they are the wavelengths specifically studied for brain health! The head wrap is also very uniquely shaped to be conveniently and comfortably worn on your head.

The face mask – The wireless face mask has 3 different modes that provides red light, near infrared light, and blue light. The red light provided is at 630nm, the near infrared light is at 830 nm, and the blue light provided is at 415 nm. The mask has an option to have no infrared light (mode three, red only), and it is the only product that provides blue light. The mask is designed to be convenient and comfortable to wear on your face, but you can use it on other body parts if you like.

The fringe panel and the fringe wraps are both versatile products that can both do many of the same things- so it is important to understand how they both work to help make your decision!

There are 2 pathways for red light to be absorbed into our body – through our eyes (visual pathway) and through our skin (physical pathway)

The visual pathway is associated with circadian rhythm balancing, mood benefits, and promoting relaxation. The visual pathway is great for sleep, mood disorders, exercise, yoga, meditation, or supplementing sunlight in darker months.

The physical pathway is associated with improving circulation, decreased inflammation, stimulation of cellular energy (or ATP), pain relief, recovery, and healing!

The panel is the most convenient way to reach the visual pathway.

You just need to set it up in the room, turn it on, and bask in the light. In the evenings red light in your environment can help stimulate the production of melatonin and help balance your circadian rhythm! It can also help promote relaxation, or supplement the sunlight in darker months. When the room is lit up with red light, you can go about your routine.

The panel also has longer timers built in so it can stay on continuously for up to an hour. The panel can also turn off the near infrared light for room lighting.

The wrap can also reach the visual pathway, but it may be less convenient for some.

Because the wraps are lower powered, you would need to have the wrap near you and allow the light to enter into your vision. For your own comfortability, dont stare into the lights. It’s only less convenient because the whole room is not lit up, so it is harder to go about a routine, if you wanted to. The wrap does turn off after 20 mins as well; You can turn it back on if you wanted to do more time. The infrared light is always on with the wraps as well, so you may feel some warmth from the wrap as well.

The wrap is the most convenient way to reach the physical pathway.

You just need to put it against your clean dry skin in whatever area you are looking to focus on.

If you want to secure the wrap to your body, they are wireless, so you can have the freedom to move around! Red Light therapy wraps are lower power devices and highly absorbed into our skin because of their direct contact with it. Quite simply, when the light is in direct contact with your skin – it has nowhere else to go! Due to the direct skin contact nature of Fringe wraps, the units have less power (60W) so we can deliver the appropriate intensity of light for a treatment (30 mw/cm2).

The panel can also reach the physical pathway- however, it may be less convenient for some people.

To do this, set your panel up 4-6 inches away from the area you are trying to treat. You can focus on any area of your body with a panel, and you may also be able to get a larger surface area with the panel. Indirect Red-Light Therapy (panels) are higher powered devices but that does not necessarily mean more light is absorbed into our skin. When the light source is 4-6 inches away from our skin, a large portion of the light is scattered before it reaches our skin. Due to the indirect nature of red-light therapy panels, the units have a higher power rating (192W) so we can accommodate for light that is lost and deliver the appropriate intensity of light for a treatment: approx 30 mw/cm2.

The panel can also turn off the near infrared light, and do red light only, if your skin is more sensitive. The wrap cannot do this.

Wrap: We recommend using your FringeLight wrap once a day for a 20 minute session. You can do multiple body parts for 20 minutes each- just stick to the 20 minutes in any one area.

There are times when your doctor may recommend you use it twice a day for 5-20 minute sessions (typically for chronic conditions).

Panel: We recommend using your Fringe panel 4-6 inches away from the body, once a day, for a 10-30 minute sessions. You can do multiple body parts for 10-30 minutes each.

Room lighting with a panel: You can use the panel to light up a room for as many hours during the day or night as you would like- but for sleep we recommend lighting up your room for 30 mins – 1 hour before bed. You can also do 30 mins – 1 hour in the morning as well for an extra boost!

Face Mask: We recommend using your Fringe Face Mask once a day on any one mode 10 minutes, 3-7 times/week. You can do a mode of red light for 10 mins followed by a mode of blue light for 10 mins (or vise versa).

These are good guidelines for MOST people, but everyone is different! If needed, you can make modifications in the length of session time, distance from the wrap or panel, consistency (daily verses 3x/week), or intensity of light!

When starting a red light therapy treatment routine, you can start with a lower amount of time and gradually work your way up to an increased time if you feel more benefits. That time will range from 10-30 minutes. We do not recommend exceeding 30-minute treatment times. You can treat multiple body areas per day.

You may experience results as early as after the first treatment session with red light therapy. However, consistent use over time will get you the best results for pain, inflammation, recovery, tissue healing, sleep, mood, brain health, skin health, and fat loss.

We recommend direct exposure to the skin. Lighter garments like underwear, bras, shorts, tank tops may be worn during a treatment. They will reduce the light exposure, but benefits will still be available for the user. If treating your face, remove makeup for a better effect.

To clean your FringeLight Wrap, we recommend using a damp (not dripping) towel. Make sure your unit is unplugged and away from any power outlets. Water and electricity aren’t friends and we don’t need you introducing the two. Make sure to only clean the fabric portions of the wrap and elastic strap. Definitely do not submerge the wrap in water or any other liquids. Lastly, let the whole air dry away from direct sunlight and you’ll be good to go! Do not tumble dry. That would be bad.

Don’t bend the wrap when putting it away, as that can damage or snap the wires. When storing your product, loosely rolling it is the best approach. When wearing the product, please follow our recommendations in the “location of wrap” section to be sure you’re using it effectively.

Yes, there is an option to power your wrap with a portable power bank/ for freedom to move while wearing (power bank not included). We include the USB charging cable for the portable power bank.

PANEL:

You can choose to turn on your panel with manual switches or with the remote/digital display option. Both options are easy for selection of Red Light (RED), Near Infrared (NIR) Light or both. Both forms of light have overlapping healing benefits, therefore we recommend using them together.

Remember, you won’t see the near infrared lights when they are on. Near infrared light is not visible to our eyes but it is still working, and you may notice it creates some mild warmth with time.

Set up your panel 4-6 inches from the desired treatment area. The panel can create some warming effect on your skin but should not be hot. If you detect the heat is rising – reduce your time or move further away from the panel than the recommended 6 inches.

For use to help regulate sleep and mood, turn on your red light as ambient lighting for 30 minutes as you wake.

As an alternative to bright lights in the evening, consider using your red light panel for evening lighting 30-60 minutes before bed or as an alternative to home lights after the sun sets.

Near infrared light is an invisible frequency of light that our eyes can not detect. However, you can tell if these lights are working on our panel as we have added a small dim light in the center of the bulb to show they are functioning.

Recommended only for use with a trained medical professional. Pulsing of red light and near infrared light therapy can be used to reduce the heating effect of the light or for brainwave synchronization. This feature should only be used under medical supervision.

Pulse 1 – 4hz (light flashes on and off 4 times/second)

Pulse 2 – 10hz (light flashes on and off 10 times/second) – this use is often used to help the brain achieve beneficial brain state. for example, 10hz is often used to induce an alpha brainwave state
